Shana Carey (Co-Editor in Chief)

Shana Carey is a senior at Red Lion Area High School. She is very involved in the choral music program, is president of NHS, and loves to volunteer on the weekends. 

She loves play guitar and go on hikes with her dog, Henri. Shana is a member of the Journalism 3 class, and she is the Editor-in-Chief this year. She loves talking to new students and hearing their opinions.

After high school, Shana wants to dual major in Spanish Language and Journalism. Shana loves to travel and wants to make it her career to visit new places. She hopes to combine her love of writing and getting to talk to new people.

Genevieve Turner (Junior Editor-in-Chief; Sports Editor) is a junior at Red Lion Area Senior High School. She has been in Journalism for two years. Gen enjoys spending time with her family and watching Grey’s Anatomy. Her future plans are to attend a four-year college and pursue her career in journalism.

Max Vigue (Multimedia Content Editor) is a junior at Red Lion Area Senior High School. Max is a writer and editor for the Leonid that specializes in multimedia content and entertainment. He is responsible for most of the video projects done by the Leonid along with covering other various forms of entertainment. His hobbies include wrestling, drawing, and creative writing. After graduation he intends on going to college to focus on becoming an author/comic writer/freelance journalist. 

Mrs. Carol Kelkis (Adviser, Journalism Teacher) has been advising Red Lion’s High School’s newspaper since 2007. A former York Dispatch correspondent and high school newspaper staff writer, Mrs. Kelkis combines years of experience with a genuine love of the news business to facilitate the creation of a multi-platform, student-friendly school publication. She was inspired by ISTE’s Philadelphia conference for educators to infuse technology into the school paper, which she views as an authentic learning experience that models news organizations in the “real world”. “Seeing the journalism program grow at Red Lion has been the source of true accomplishment for me. I am inspired by the students who work tirelessly at their unique, invaluable roles to produce a great source of news and pride for our school. It’s synergy at its best.” Holding a degree in English Education, and a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Curriculum, Mrs. Kelkis plans to continue advising The Leonid and bring the love of news to even more students.
